Blue Grotto and its caves are located on the west cost of Malta Island. To get there from Sliema, Gzira or Valletta best thing is to go to central bus station located right in front of Valletta, in Floriana. From Valletta you need to take bus number 71 (price – 2.60 EUR for day-ticket) which goes to Zurrieq, small town wright before Blue Grotto.
Tip: Ask the driver to inform you when you need to go out. The thing is that there is no direct bus which goes exactly to Blue Grotto. You will need to make a switch to another bus in Zurrieq and ride one more stop. Driver will tell you everything. Or you can walk, but under the Sun 3km can be hard.
In the small town/village of Blue Grotto are only a few things you can do. First and of course most important and interesting is to take a quick boat tour to see the caves, amazingly clear crystal water and the cliffs. For that you need to buy a ticket from the kiosk next to the boats (ask anyone around if you can’t find it). Price (in 2012) is 7 EUR for adult and 3.50 EUR for children. There are no discounts for elder people or students
Tip: Do not forget your camera!
Blue Grotto is also very famous among divers. Few hundred meters from the shore of the village is one of the most famous wrecks in Malta – Um El Faroud, a 10 000 ton Libyan tanker.
In the small village of Blue Grotto there are few nice walks next to the cliff drop-offs (be careful) and a few nice restaurants where you can try some excellent fish. Also, take your swimsuit and snorkeling gear with you.
Blue Grotto is part of Hop-on Hop-off bus tour.
